Why Airbag Assist Suspension?

4WD Accesories

Boss Air Suspension Airbags are designed to assist your factory suspension. They can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the air pressure.

With the base kit you manually fill the bags from valves with your own compressor, the local service station, or as we have heard a few times a standing bicycle hand pump. The most common place these valves are installed is at the rear next to the tow ball

When installed, Boss Air Suspension kits allow you to raise the vehicle back to standard ride height using air pressure to compensate for any added weight. This helps to keep the vehicle level while towing or carrying that half metre of builders’ mix and prevents rear sagging, bottoming out, and excessive pressure on your vehicle’s tyres.

Airbags work best with proper functioning factory springs, they are not a fix for tired springs and here at Boss we always suggest bringing your suspension back to standard before installing an air assist suspension package.

We get asked why not just beef up the leaf springs or get heavier duty coils?  In some circumstances, once we know the vehicle use, we may advise our customers to look into this option.  However, the economics of having a dedicated work vehicle and personal car at home for the weekend are gone, in no small part instigated by our vehicle manufacturers when the plush double cabs stepped up and could become a 4/5-seater weekend family car.

So now we load the ute during the week for work and empty it for the weekend. If you have decided to install the heavier springs your ride becomes hard and bouncy when emptied.

Boss Airbags offer the adjustability you need, letting you adapt to the load in/on the vehicle, giving you a similar ride with 500kg loaded or just two kids in the back seat.

Also when your vehicle is loaded and you are only on factory springs, which have sagged a bit, allowing the rear to drop, the vehicle weight balance is upset and your front suspension does not engage fully. This could mean your front wheels are light on the road and steering is compromised.  In the same situation driving at night, your headlights will appear on high-beam to all oncoming traffic.

For those that often change their load weights away from an available compressor, Boss Air Suspension also offers a range of on-board inflation kits, from the simple where you manually adjust from your cab, to the auto levelling where the system will engage your air compressor system automatically and keep you at a pre-set level ride height.

Boss Air Suspension holds stock ex-Auckland for most available kits in the Boss range. All the company’s kits come with simple-to-follow instructions.
