Raptor edges ahead of Ram’s TRX

News and General

he V8 is dead. No, wait, it isn’t. While the Ford F150 heads into V6 territory along with its rivals, something extraordinary has snuck into showrooms in the USA.

The 2024 Raptor R takes the horsepower crown from Ram’s TRX, escalating a power war that has no right to exist in these woke times. The ‘R’ also has more power than a Ford GT sports car. In fact, the Raptor R makes more power than the second generation Ford GT, the Ferrari Purosangue or the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

Ford’s jump-soaring, Baja-rallying flagship truck now has the most power of any current Ford product.

While Ford is making efforts to electrify its entire line-up, the F-150 Raptor R remains a standout example of Ford’s old-school performance prowess.

For 2024, the Ford F-150 Raptor R will boast 537kW (720bhp) and 867Nm (640lb-ft) of torque from its 5.2-litre supercharged V8. The new numbers eclipse those of the TRX as the latter ends it brief run as the most powerful 4WD pick-up in history.

The outputs are remarkable from a relatively small displacement engine, and according to Ford have been achieved through retuned and reworked inlet air design. Sounds as though they are being slightly economical with the info.

The Ford Raptor arrived 14 years ago as a performance-focused version of the F-150.

The lifted, widened, and power-injected truck had a 6.2-litre V8. Nowadays, the regular F-150 Ford Raptor uses a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 making 335kW(450bhp) and 691Nm (510lb-ft) of torque.

The Raptor R has dual-valved Fox LiveValve shocks, a 12,000-pound Warn winch in the front bumper, and 35-inch tires. It weighs in at around 2.8 tonnes.
