Pathfinder’s back – and it’s dropped the CVT!

News and General

Nissan’s new Pathfinder is heading down under and will arrive with a transverse V6 engine, traditional nine speed automatic transmission, semi-autonomous driving technology, spacious seating for up to eight and a wealth of new safety and technology features.

Comprehensively redesigned for 2022, the new version marks a return to the Pathfinder’s rugged roots. The technical platform underneath still FWD-based and it has the same wheelbase as the previous model.

A new nine-speed automatic transmission, complete with wheel-mounted paddle shifters, now pairs with the potent V6 petrol engine (202kW and 340Nm).

Nissan’s advanced Pro-PILOT semi-autonomous driving system is standard from the ST-L model upwards.

Pathfinders feature Nissan’s all-new Intelligent 4WD with seven-position Drive and Terrain Mode Selector. The new 4WD system features direct coupling, which allows torque transfer directly on the clutch pack using oil pressure. The drive mode selection – Standard, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand, Mud/Rut and Tow – is displayed as a pop-up notification on the cluster.

There is a new dual-pinion electric power steering system and suspension is similar to the outgoing model: front strut and rear independent multi-link suspension with front and rear stabiliser bars. Ground clearance is a road-friendly 185mm – with no indication of any adjustability to take than number north to a more off-road-friendly 200mm; nor is there any indication of a low range shifter.

The new model’s tow rating is 2700kg and there are tow mode and on-board trailer-stability programs.

Inside, a major technology update sees a 10.8-inch infotainment screen and head up display (HUD) standard across all models, featuring a wide range of key information including turn-by-turn satellite navigation.

An upgrade to the infotainment system also spans all models, with integrated wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, and DAB+ digital radio, four USB charging points are standard, as are two 12-volt outlets.
