Following major overhauls of its American-market Acadia and Terrain SUVs, GMC is showing off its 2025 GMC Yukon.
It’s a face-lift with a revised option sheet and more tech features “aimed at easing the experience from behind the wheel”.
More to the point, it’s being converted to right hand drive by Walkinshaw in Australia and GMSV will launch the Yukon in that market in the first half of 2025, with buyers offered a 6.2-litre petrol V8 producing 313kW and 624Nm – the same engine found in the related Chevrolet Silverado pick-up – mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Aussie media say the Yukon is targeting older ‘grey nomad’ buyers and those who need to tow. Downunder, the Yukon is seen as a rival for the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Y62 Nissan Patrol.
The big SUV will come to New Zealand, but timings have yet to be firmed up.
The 2025 GMC Yukon range spans a new Elevation entry level model, AT3 off-road version and the Yukon AT4 Ultimate which takes the off-road hardware from the AT4 and combines it with top-level luxury features previously found only on the range-topping Denali Ultimate models: such as massaging front seats, extended leather trim throughout the cabin, and genuine wood-grain accents.
Those who liked the Ford Ranger’s class-leading vertical infoscreen might want to start saving: the Yukon breaks the previous record with a 16.8 inch vertical screen.
More milestones: the Denali Ultimate is the first major-brand SUV to feature 24-inch wheels.
Highlights of the AT4 include a front skid plate and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that can raise the vehicle up to 50mm to improve ground clearance when off-road, and an Obsidian Rush interior with three rows of full-grain leather seating and Ash Burl wood accents.
The American-market powertrain lineup includes 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V-8s.
For the ten percent of Yukon customers who prefer a diesel engine, GMC has also updated the group’s 3.0-litre Duramax inline six-cylinder turbodiesel engine to produce 227kW and 521Nm.
