Ford farewells the Bi-Turbo Ranger engine

New and tested 4WDs

Ford has announced significant updates to its powertrain offerings for the award-winning Ranger and Everest, enhancing the proven 2.0L turbo-diesel engine and expanding the availability of the powerful 3.0L V6 turbo diesel. Ford’s proven 10-speed automatic transmission will continue to be standard on all variants. The 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel will also be phased out as part of the changes.

“By focusing on the newly updated 2.0L turbo diesel and expanding the availability of our popular 3.0L V6, we're giving customers more access to the power, torque, and refinement they love, whether they're on the job site or heading out for a weekend adventure," said Mathew Slade, Marketing Director, Ford New Zealand.

The 2.0L turbo-diesel engine has been upgraded with a new fuel injection system and timing chain replacing the previous wet belt  for improved durability and performance.

The  3.0L V6 turbodiesel will now be offered on a wider range of models.

Ranger Raptor, continues with the V6 twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, while the recently released Ranger Hybrid, with its 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine and 75kW electric motor, gives customers both performance and efficiency.

Full details of the revised lineup will be shared in late 2025 with first arrivals expected mid-2026.
