Transmissions love their coolers

The automatic transmission is one of the most significant inventions in the automotive industry’s history, making driving much easier and helping with better fuel efficiency.

Transmission fluid is an integral part of the transmission, lubricating the numerous moving parts inside the transmission. The fluid absorbs heat and as it heats up it becomes less effective in its lubrication.

Every year thousands of transmissions fail due to the overheating of the fluid. Once the transmission fluid hits 93 degrees C, the fluid starts to break down. This means there is less lubrication of the components and eventually can cause failures of critical components.

This is where a transmission cooler becomes an important component of the vehicle. Some vehicles may come with a built-in cooler which is often included within the radiator. But when towing, carrying heavy loads, or putting extra stress on the transmission in any way these are often not up to the task.

Fitting a quality external aftermarket transmission cooler will help keep the fluid at a much better operating temperature, helping keep the transmission in good working order. Along with regular servicing, this will help avoid premature failures of important components.
